Slant Top Desk

This was an interesting project, again quarter-sawn white oak.  In our Ames house we both had separate offices, with mine as the primary as I ran my consulting practice from home, whole Johnny had quite palatial digs as Associate VP at Iowa State.  Our move to Pagosa prompted an “office desk” for the livingroom that would be an attractive piece of furniture while being a functional, working center.  Hence the slant top desk below.
The unique feature about this is the desk top supporting mechanism that “comes out” as the slant top is let down.  It took a while to get this right; I finally just made a working model out of pine to satisfy myself that it would, in fact, work.

It is essentially a desk box, built separately, then installed on a table.  I like the tapered legs — gives a nice finished and delicate look to the whole piece.
