These are two matching side tables. Material is tiger-stripped maple and paduak. The tops (maple) were finished in 3 steps with amber shellac, a coat of oil-based polyurethane and a top coat of paste wax. The legs were finished in shellac and paste wax.
They sit next to two matching arm chairs. The maple captures some of the other wood tones in the room and the paduak naturally picks up the darker tones in the chairs. They all face the picture window which is out morning sittin’-and-readin’ spot, looking out over the Continental Divide in the distance.
I enjoyed working with these new woods and finishing them with shellac, especially the amber tint that brought out the “tiger stripes” really well.
